Stand community partners!

The Surgeon General has declared vaping an epidemic among youth in the United States.

Unfortunately, Upper Arlington is not immune to the vaping epidemic as seen in our OHYES! survey results. As a community, Upper Arlington has seen the rate of students vaping rise each year reaching even our middle school and elementary students – as of 2017 40.9% of our high school students and 12.6% of our middle school students have tried vaping. We know that these numbers have only increased.

In 2019 As a response to the epidemic, The Stand Project took on the issue of vaping in multiple ways. We partnered with UAPD, UA Schools, Syntero, local businesses, OhioHealth, parents and students to educate the entire community about the risks of vaping and to spark this critical conversation.

We released a 6-part video series and distribution strategy that has been wildly successful with over 19K+ views on Facebook and YouTube combined. We have been able to share this series and strategy with private and parochial schools throughout Columbus and nationally.

As a final opportunity to inform and educate our community with reliable, vetted resources in a single location - The Stand Project created a resource page on it’s website for parents and students alike. To date those resources have been a significant source of traffic to the site and are continually used.

RESPONSIBLE DISPOSAL - DROPBOX

The simple step of ridding your home of old and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications can greatly reduce the chances of misuse and promotes a safer community. The pharmacy inside CVS Kingsdale hosts a permanent medication disposal box. Drugs can be dropped off year-round during the pharmacy’s operating hours with no questions asked.
